Hey Peak Story Review readers! It’s Sam, and I’m dropping by the site today to tell our readers who are also educators or have kiddos in their families to check out the Pika Bunny Learning Series, specifically Pika Bunny and the Thunderstorm.
I had the honor of receiving a copy in exchange for an honest review prior to our decision not to accept children’s literature. The decision to review only young adult and adult literature and films was not made lightly. In the future, we may make exceptions to this or other policies and when we do, we’ll categorize them as “honorable mentions.”
I read this story to my nine-month-old son, and although it was written for an older age group, he loved the illustrations (by Adrianna “Ad” Allegretti). As a mother, I love that Wendy Gilhula wrote Pika bunny with strong emotions and Pika’s mom as a wise and insightful character that doesn’t try and invalidate those emotions. Moreover, Gilhula’s beautiful prose and imaginative descriptions of the storm captivated me throughout.
The copy I received was also translated into Spanish on every page, which I thought was fantastic. This is one of many in the series and all of them seem equally well-written and impactful.
Pika Bunny and the Thunderstorm receives an honorable mention and 5/5 peaks!
